BG Quick® - FAQ

1. Delivery

1.1. How is BG QUICK® packed?
BG QUICK® is delivered in uniform buckets made of white plastics with a lid. They contain 30 litres of material and weigh 40 kg. The content of the bucket can  easily be recognized by the coloured stripe that goes around the bucket.
1.2. What is the minimal quantity of BG QUICK® that I can order?
1.2. The minimal quantity is 200 kg, as you will need 4 buckets of the powder and 1 bucket of the liquid which will be mixed together. Each bucket holds 40 kg. It is possible to get a smaller amount; however, there is a surcharge for putting the material into special packaging which is generally not cost efficient.
1.3. What are BG QUICK® delivery times?
1.3. Quantities in the range of tons can be dispatched immediately. The delivery company we use is usually able to deliver such quantities within 3 business days from the day of order (in EU). If you need the goods earlier than that, you can collect it yourself in Pardubice and get BG QUICK® on the same day.
1.4. Do I have to pick up BG QUICK® in Pardubice?
1.4. No, you don’t. The delivery service is not expensive and it will deliver BG QUICK® to you within 3 business days. We are gradually developing a network of qualified local agents in each district.
1.5. BG QUICK® is delivered in returnable containers. What do we do when they are empty?
1.5. Normally, with your next order of BG QUICK® you state how many empty containers you are returning and you will get full containers in return. If you only wish to return empty containers, you can simply ship them or have the delivery service deliver them to our address in Pardubice and you will get your deposit back. You can also call us and we may be able to pick the containers ourselves if have a BG QUICK® training session for a company located near your place of business.

2.1. For an unlimited period of time, if kept in the original closed containers. For 1 year, if the container has been opened.
2.2. Does BG QUICK® have to be stored in temperature controlled rooms?
2.2.  Not at all. It can be used or stored in temperatures as low as -50˚C / -58F. If it is stored in open space, only the paper labels on plastic containers will be affected.

3. Working with BG QUICK®

3.1. Can we carry out repairs with BG QUICK® ourselves, or can it only be applied only by specialized companies?
3.1. Work with BG QUICK® is so easy that after ten-minutes of instruction training anyone who has ever had a plastering trowel in their hand will be able to use it.
3.2. How can our employees learn how to use BG QUICK®? From a brochure?
3.2. That is also possible, because work with BG QUICK® is really easy. The instruction manuals (link to Downloads) can be downloaded from our web site. However, we recommend arranging a free training session with us, as all our customers have done so far. That way you also save money because we deliver the ordered BG QUICK® free of charge. We can also make sure that BG QUICK®s high quality will not suffer due to incompetent use and that BG QUICK® will be applied only in these cases where it can bring economic advantages.
3.3. Who can I contact if I don’t have anybody able to apply BG QUICK®?
3.3. Currently, there is at least one company in each district that orders BG QUICK® from us and whose employees have been trained in its use. We will be happy to give you contact information for these companies, or we can also give you an estimate for doing the work ourselves. Fill out the inquiry form. (link to Inquiry form)
3.4. May I put some gravel into deep potholes before I apply BG QUICK® to save money?
3.4. Yes, you may, but you will lose one of the BG QUICK®s main advantages – that is, it adheres to the base and does not fall out even though heavy traffic may dent it after time if the base is soft. A better method is to add some gravel directly into BG QUICK® when mixing it. You can add up to 50% of dry gravel.

4. Mixing

4.1. Can BG QUICK® be thinned with water?
4.1. Definitely not! BG QUICK® is water-soluble until it sets. If water is added, the whole batch will be ruined, since it will not set.
4.2. How do you mix BG QUICK®?
4.2. BG QUICK® is mixed much like a dry mortar but instead of water you use the liquid that is delivered together with the powder component. Small amounts (c. up to 5 kg) can be mixed by hand using a bucket and a plastering trowel. Bigger amounts (up to 20 kg) can be mixed in a bucket using an electric drill with a stirrer. A motionless mixer (a type in which the container remains still and only the mixing fins move) is used for greater amounts of material (up to 500 kg) just like for polymer concrete.
4.3. Can BG QUICK® be mixed using an ordinary cement mixer?
4.3. No, it cannot! Once you mix the powder and liquid components, BG QUICK® starts to get warm and it has to be mixed within 1-2 minutes; ordinary mixers can manage that. Thats why special mixers for polymer concrete are used (the container remains still and only the mixing fins move).
4.4. Do I have to weigh the powder and liquid components when mixing BG QUICK®?
4.4. No, you don't ! Both components (powder : liquid) are delivered in the mass ratio of 4 : 1 and they can be mixed like that. You can also mix BG QUICK® by measuring the components in terms of volume (not weight), which is a common practice for bricklayers. Volume ratio of 3 : 1 (powder : liquid) would then be 3 mortar scoops of the powder and 1 scoop of the liquid. From experience, we know that each crew approximates the ratio and mixes the material according to its consistency just like ordinary mortar or concrete. Simply – if the mixture is too dry, they add some liquid; if its too thin, they add some powder.
4.5. When I can add gravel into BG QUICK® mixture?
4.5. If the layer of BG QUICK® is thicker than 3 cm / 1¼", you can add up to 50% of gravel (in terms of weight). So as not to have to weigh it, you can use the volume mixing method (powder : gravel : liquid ratio = 3 : 2 : 1), see article 4.4.

5. Necessary tools

5.1. Is it necessary to purchase special expensive machines for using BG QUICK®?
5.1. No, its not! All you need is a rubber bucket, a trowel and a rod. You buy a propeller stirrer that can be fixed to the drill chuck and you can start. The investment is below 50$.
5.2. What are the recommended tools to be used with BG QUICK®?
5.2. We have had good experience with the NAREX ProTool MPX 1000 EQ stirrer. It is inexpensive and it lasts for years.

6. What is BG QUICK® suitable for? Usage conditions.

6.1. I am not in a hurry and I do not really need to have the road fixed in an hour. Is it worth it for me to use BG QUICK® ?
6.1. The reason why most of our customers buy BG QUICK® is not the fact that the surface can be traffic ready in an hour, but because of its cost-effectiveness. If you use BG QUICK® to fill a long crack, you can save as much as 90% of costs in comparison to other technologies. When repairing a drift that has collapsed after installation of a pipeline or wires, you will save at least 30% of costs. And nobody want to come with small amout of asphalt to repair single small pothole. Asphalt men ask to take 3 tons as minimum! But using 10 kg / 20 lb BG QUICK® you can DIY in 10 minutes!
6.2. Can BG QUICK® be really used in winter as well?
6.2. In fact, most of our reference projects are from the period of October – March. BG QUICK® can be readily used in sub-zero conditions with the help of the powder set accelerator, of which you don need more than 4%. The lowest temperature at which BG QUICK® has been used in the Czech Republic is -23˚C / -10F (freezing plant, without  shut-down). (link to Freezing plants
6.3. What’s BG QUICK®’s consistency?
6.3. It depends on how much liquid you put into the powder component.  BG QUICK® can be used in the consistency of flowing concrete, self-levelling mortar or dry concrete. Mechanical features of the compound are not affected by the mix proportion. The curing period is simply longer if there is more liquid.
6.4. Is BG QUICK® suitable for fixing concrete floors?
6.4. Yes it is. You can find many examples and pictures in Reference List. (link to Floors)
6.5. Does BG QUICK® have to be laid down without interruptions, like concrete?
6.5. No, it doesn't. This is one of the advantages of BG QUICK®, it provides excellent adhesion to all common materials (except plastics) and therefore adheres on itself as well. So the work can be interrupted and resumed at any time – after a few hours, days or even years.
6.6. Why are repairs with BG QUICK® cheaper than repairs with asphalt? Is BG QUICK® cheaper than asphalt?
6.6. No, BG QUICK® is more expensive than asphalt, but you use substantially less material with BG QUICK® because it doesn require milling and it naturally fills potholes, cracks or collapsed drifts. BG QUICK® can be used in any weather and you don't have to wait for the summer season. This enables you to set up a system of preventive maintenance, when any defects can be eliminated at an early stage while they are still small and before they become bigger due to frost.
